Rehabilitation research projects in the joint Department involve using biomedical engineering capabilities in biomechanics to develop custom devices for the disabled. Dr. Richard Goldberg supervises student design projects in rehabilitation engineering. Project ideas are obtained from local health care providers, and at the end of the semester, the completed projects are delivered, free of charge, to the clients. In the area of autonomous robotic systems, Dr. Edward Grant focuses his research on machine-learned control and distributed sensor networks, including mobile robot navigation and planning via interaction with Monte Carlo sensor networks. In biorobotics, Dr. Grant’s research includes rehabilitation engineering and wearable computing, among other many other biorobotic applications. Dr. Henry Hsiao’s research interests are in the areas of biomedical instrument design and in human and telemedicine and microcomputer interfaces, in application to rehabilitation devices as well as other applications. Dr. Troy Nagle focuses his research on biomedical sensors and medical devices. In recent years he has been active in research projects in electronic olfaction. |
