Applying to the NC State Undergraduate Program in Biomedical Engineering

Undergraduate freshmen entering this curriculum should enroll in the College of Engineering unmatriculated program and indicate Biomedical Engineering (BMU) as their curriculum choice. After successfully completing the engineering unmatriculated requirements the student can apply to enter the program for the B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Graduation requires the completion of 127 semester hours of designated courses.

The deadline for applying to the undergraduate BME program is Friday, April 27, 2012 for the class of 2015. Students must complete all engineering C-wall requirements by the end of Summer Session I to be considered for admission.

The BME Undergraduate Admissions Committee will consider these applications after Summer Session I grades are final. Only students who have been accepted into the B. S. in Biomedical Engineering degree program will be allowed to enroll in BME 301 and BME 311, the first 300-level required courses for this degree.

The BME faculty consider evidence of developing leadership abilities, an informed appreciation of the field of biomedical engineering, and thoughtful consideration about how a student's career goals are consistent with undergraduate preparation in biomedical engineering to be as important as strong academic performance. High GPA alone does not guarantee admission into the program. Applicants are encouraged to give thoughtful attention to their answers in all categories on the matriculation application.

Students should consult carefully with their current academic advisors about their plans for Fall 2012. In view of the competitive nature of acceptance to the BME program, having an alternative plan in mind would be appropriate.

Applying to the Curriculum in Applied Sciences and Engineering

There is no special admissions process for the undergraduate Curriculum in Applied Sciences and Engineering. Students should declare their major as Applied Sciences - Biomedical Engineering track. To ensure that you are taking the appropriate courses, we encourage you to consult with your advisor in the Academic Advising Program or with the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Curriculum in Applied Sciences and Engineering. Please note that the UNC undergraduate program is a completely separate entity from the NCSU undergraduate BME program.
